Punch Fear in the Face and Start Building Wealth

One of the most powerful ideas I heard recently came from Lisa Nichols.

She said:

“Your story is not meant to be your fortress. It is meant to be your fuel.”

That line really stayed with me.

So many people allow their past, their circumstances, or their fears to hold them back from building the life they truly want. But what if we looked at things differently? What if our story was actually the very thing that could drive us forward?

Each of us has a unique journey. We all come from different backgrounds, different experiences, and different challenges. Instead of allowing those experiences to limit us, we can choose to use them as fuel to create something greater.

Your story matters. And it can become the very motivation that pushes you toward the life you want to build.

Wealth Starts in the Mind

When people think about building wealth, they often focus on external things. They think about investments, property, markets, timing, and strategies.

But in reality, wealth starts somewhere much deeper.

It starts in your mind.

Your mindset determines how you approach opportunities, how you respond to challenges, and how willing you are to take action.

You can see this clearly when looking at people who suddenly receive large sums of money. There are many stories of individuals who win the lottery, only to find themselves broke again a few years later. The money arrived, but the mindset required to hold and grow that wealth was never developed.

This is why mindset matters so much. Before wealth can grow in your life, you must first develop the thinking and discipline required to manage it.

A lot of these ideas were explored by Bob Proctor, who often spoke about the power of the subconscious mind and how our deeply held beliefs shape the results we experience.

The Power of Your Subconscious Beliefs

Our subconscious mind plays a powerful role in our lives.

It stores our beliefs, our conditioning, and the patterns we have developed over time. When we try to do something new or step outside our comfort zone, our subconscious often pushes back.

That resistance often shows up as fear.

You might hear thoughts like:

  • “I don’t know enough to do this.”

  • “What if I get it wrong?”

  • “What will people think?”

  • “Who am I to try something like this?”

These thoughts are incredibly common, especially when people start exploring wealth creation or investing.

But here’s the important thing to remember: fear is often simply a signal that you are stepping into something new.

And growth almost always lives on the other side of that discomfort.

Taking Action Builds Confidence

One of the biggest misconceptions people have is that they need to feel confident before they take action.

But confidence rarely comes first.

Confidence is usually the result of action.

When you take your first step into something unfamiliar, it will often feel uncomfortable. But once you take that step, you begin to build experience. That experience slowly builds confidence.

For example, when my husband Nat and I are looking at property investments, we spend time researching the market. We analyse potential deals, calculate expenses, estimate returns, and decide what price would make a property work for us as cashflow-positive investors.

Once we’ve done that groundwork, we might submit an offer to the agent or the owner.

Submitting an offer doesn’t cost anything. It simply requires a bit of research and the willingness to put yourself forward.

But for many people, even that small step can feel intimidating. Fear creeps in and says, “You’re not ready.”

The truth is, nobody feels fully ready when they start something new.

Start Before You Feel Ready

Many successful entrepreneurs and investors talk about receiving countless rejections before they reach success.

They may hear “no” dozens of times before they finally receive a “yes.”

But those rejections are not failures. They are simply part of the journey.

Each step you take builds experience. Each action helps you learn. Each attempt strengthens your confidence.

The people who eventually succeed are usually the ones who simply refused to stop.

They kept moving forward.

They kept learning.

They kept taking action.

Breaking the Cycle

For many people, life falls into a familiar pattern.

Wake up.
Go to work.
Come home.
Repeat the same routine again tomorrow.

There’s nothing wrong with working hard, but if you want to build something different for your future, you eventually have to start thinking differently.

You have to begin asking yourself new questions.

What kind of life do I truly want to create?
What opportunities could I start exploring today?
What small steps could I take that move me closer to my goals?

Often those steps are far simpler than people imagine. Sometimes it starts with learning, researching, making phone calls, asking questions, or reaching out to people who already have experience.

The important thing is simply to begin.

Don’t Let Fear Control Your Future

Fear will always try to keep you where you are.

Your subconscious mind naturally wants to protect what feels familiar and safe. But if you allow that fear to control your decisions, you may never move toward the life you truly want.

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is exactly what the title of this article suggests:

Punch fear in the face and move forward anyway.

Start learning.
Start researching.
Start asking questions.
Start taking action.

Because once you begin, something incredible happens.

Your confidence starts to grow.

Your understanding deepens.

And the life that once felt distant begins to move closer to reality.

Let Your Story Become Your Fuel

Your story is not something that should hold you back.

It is something that can drive you forward.

Every challenge you’ve faced, every lesson you’ve learned, and every step you’ve taken has helped shape who you are today.

Instead of letting those experiences become barriers, allow them to become motivation.

Let them remind you of your resilience. Let them inspire you to build something greater.

Because the life you want to create may begin with just one decision:

The decision to start.

And sometimes, that first step simply means punching fear in the face and moving forward anyway.
